Associate Artists

Foursight Theatre’s strong team of Associate Artists, born out of long-term creative relationships with the company, form the bedrock of our creative ensemble.

Deborah Barnard - Associate Artist

Deb first trained in education, specialising in child psychology and dance in education, and later trained in physical theatre. She has worked as an animateur, festival co-ordinator, director and performer. She was Artistic Director of Ludus Dance from 1997-2004. Directing credits include Sold, Clash and Zygote. Work with Foursight includes directing Bloody Mary & The Virgin Queen and co-directing Six Dead Queens and An Inflatable Henry! and Thatcher The Musical!. Deb currently works as a freelance Creative Consultant & Coach. She serves on the advisory/boards of Regional Council -ACE NW, Foundation for Community Dance, and The British Council Dance & Drama Unit.

 

Naomi Cooke - Associate Director

Naomi is one of the four co-founders of Foursight Theatre and the company's former Artistic Director (1998-2007). She trained at the University of Exeter. Directing credits for Foursight include: Hecuba, The Snow Queen, Reans Girls, and Pushing Daisies, and co-directing credits include Thatcher The Musical! and Six Dead Queens and an Inflatable Henry! Acting credits include the title role in Medea, Clytaemnestra in Agamemnon, the solo show Pink Smoke In The Vatican and Ulrike Meinhoff in Shoot The Women First. Naomi has tutored on the Foursight Theatre Summer School Serious Play. She lived and worked in Canada for six years where she produced, directed and performed in many national / US touring productions including the solo show Slap! and Gertrude Stein and a Companion. She was a Guest Lecturer at the Universities of Saskatchewan and Calgary. She is a freelance actor, director, devisor and teacher and is currently involved in establishing a community arts farm in Dorset.

 

Jill Dowse - Associate Artist

Jill is a theatre, music and voice practitioner, and co-artistic director of The Bone Ensemble. In 1987 she co-founded Foursight Theatre, with whom she has created many performances and is now involved with the company as an Associate Artist. Recent work includes Can Any Mother Help Me? (as Performer / Deviser with Foursight Theatre) Car Park Show No. 1 (a site-specific piece for the Humber Mouth Festival 2008), Thatcher the Musical (song writer), Voice In-Site and Again (devised solo pieces) and research and development for the Fermata, in association with The Other Theatre ( Denmark ) and the Roy Hart Theatre ( France ). Jill is also a lecturer in Drama at the University of Hull , with research interest in voice, site-specific performance, devising and performer training.

 

Kate Hale - Associate Artist

Kate is a founder member of Foursight Theatre and serves on the company's board as a co-opted member. She trained at the University of Exeter and subsequently with Philippe Gaulier in London. She was an Artistic Director of Foursight for 11 years and involved as a director on Pink Smoke, Slap!, Shoot The Women First, Boadicea, and The Trout Sisters. She performed in Hitler's Women, Shoot The Women First and Bloody Mary and the Virgin Queen. In her capacity as Education Director of Foursight (1998-2002), Kate created and directed several plays for schools, youth theatres and universities. As an Associate Artist since 2002, Kate has continued to work with the company as a director, a tutor on the Serious Play actor training courses and, during research and development projects, as a devising actor. She most recently worked with the company as dramaturg for Thatcher the Musical. Kate also works as a freelance artist for other arts organisations and is a senior lecturer in Drama at the University of Wolverhampton, where her teaching focuses on Applied Drama, Theatre of the Oppressed and devising techniques. She is currently working towards a Practice as Research MA at the University of Warwick which asks the question, "What systems are needed to ensure that collective, actor -centric devising processes remain truly democratic?"

 

Lisa Harrison - Associate Artist

Since her degree in Drama and German at Goldsmiths, University of London, the bulk of Lisa's work as a performer has been as a devisor with companies committed to working collaboratively as an ensemble and to creating new work - such as Foursight, I.O.U., and Horse and Bamboo. She has toured extensively in the UK, Europe and Canada.  She first performed with Foursight in 1994 in Frankenstein's Mothers. This was the beginning of a growing relationship with the company. Since then she has been seen in Hitler's Women, Pushing Daisies, Medea, Six Dead Queens and an Inflatable Henry and Thatcher: The Musical! In more recent years she has worked extensively in schools, colleges, universities and with community groups. In October 2007 she became Foursight's Education and Outreach Co-ordinator.

 

Lucy Tuck - Associate Artist

Lucy first worked with the company in 2004, assisting on Hecuba in the capacity of movement director.
Prior to her re-location to Wolverhampton she was based in London and building an eclectic CV, from acting with female fight company Broads With Swords and The Royal Shakespeare Company to working on dance-theatre projects with choreographer/director Jacky Lansley, to highlight a few. She joined Foursight Theatre in 2005 by invitation to fulfil a programme of work, performing in Six Dead Queens and An Inflatable Henry!, Welcome to My World, and Apna Ghar and working as a devisor/performer/co-choreographer on Thatcher The Musical!.
She remains connected with the company as a freelance actor and was a devisor/performer on Can Any Mother Help Me? in 2009.
