Foursight secures £1,000 grant from The Sir Barry Jackson Trust

24 June 2008

Following a recent application to The Sir Barry Jackson Trust, Foursight Theatre has secured a grant of £1,000 to support this autumn's production The Corner Shop: a site-specific performance set to run 26th September – 4th October 2008 in a disused shop in Smethwick.

Using recorded stories as a starting point, The Corner Shop will be devised alongside a team of professionals and volunteers from the local community. Using artefacts and recreating shop environments, it will explore the lives of the families behind the counter and the customers in front, reflecting the changing nature of the Black Country corner shop over the years.

The Sir Barry Jackson Trust funds small-scale, touring and educational theatre projects in the West Midlands which are intellectually challenging, artistically inventive, and inclusive.

Michelle Knight, General Manager of Foursight Theatre, says, “We’re delighted to receive this support for The Corner Shop from a regionally-based fund, especially given the importance The Sir Barry Jackson Trust places on local and artistically inventive work. We are also pleased that the Trust has recognised the project’s exciting potential to bring theatre to urban audiences with little or no previous experience of theatre of this kind.”
