In partnership with Creative Partnerships, this project built on the continuing development of our relationship with West Park Primary School. The project was planned with staff and pupils and explored the question:
“How can more creativity be introduced into maths provision at West Park Primary School in order to help pupils understand maths within real life contexts?”
We were interested in seeing how ‘unexpected’ media – such as drama, music and dance – might be used as a vehicle through which to explore maths.
We wanted to link in with the local community with this project, helping pupils see the relevance of maths today. We investigated maths outside the classroom, starting off with a trip to West Park.
As with all of our projects, it was be driven by the imaginations and interests of the participating children. We genuinely did not know which directions it would take us in.
