01 September 2008
Using recorded stories as a starting point we will create a new theatre production working with a team of professionals and volunteers from the local community. Using artefacts and recreating shop environments, The Corner Shop will explore the lives of the families behind the counter and the customers in front, reflecting the changing nature of the Black Country corner shop over the years, from its traditional roots through to the South Asian corner shop and now shops catering for specific newer migrant communities.
The performance will be taking place in a disused shop, right at the heart of West Bromwich. For more information on The Corner Shop click here, for a selection of images of people that we have interviewed in the research process, as well as more pictures of rehearsals click here, and for an inside view of the beginning of the devsiing process, keep an eye on our blog!
