Reans Girls

Show Information

Reans Girls was an exciting new venture for Foursight. Rather than a conventional play, Reans Girls was a multi-artform creative response to the engaging, provocative and varied stories of local Whitmore Reans women, who have come to live in the area from all over the world. Through the experiences of these women and using sound, music, live performance and installation work, Reans Girls was a celebration of the diversity of our local community.

The piece used stories collected from daughters, mothers and grandmothers -personal stories which through time relate back to other cultures and experiences of world events, such as the Second World War and the process of the independence of the colonies.

Audience members were taken on a journey during which they experienced a wide-ranging bombardment of sounds, performance, smells and visual stimuli reflecting the rich diversity of the area. A sense of people leaving behind country and family, of arriving, joining and becoming a part of another community, yet still carrying a strong sense of cultural identity and ties to homeland.
